Book Coaching Spotlight

A Songwriting Success Story

So turns out last month I went from Book Coaching to Songwriting Coaching. I’ve been writing songs just for fun for almost 20 years now, writing over 40 songs. It’s been my goal to start recording these songs on my own and to upload them to Spotify. This adventure and exposure has helped broaden my coaching skills beyond story writing to songwriting.

And that’s how I connected with singer and guitarist Marlin Boggs.

Marlin reached out to me for advice on songwriting. Deep down, this has been a huge dream of mine: to help songwriters. Because I recently realized that songwriting isn’t as common as I once thought. I grew up with the mindset that everyone who was musical wrote songs. So I thought I wasn’t anything special for writing them. But the years proved me wrong when I learned that songwriting is unique and special and many musicians have blocks preventing them from writing songs and expressing themselves in that way.

Marlin was a perfect example of what many songwriters struggle through. Marlin had hundreds of videos of song ideas he had recorded over the years. But he never finished any. He wanted to start finishing some that he’s proud enough to share. But Marlin was faced with a tough question: How do you finalize a song once you have an idea in mind?

After just one coaching session with Marlin, he now feels like he can definitely write a song. Using these new concepts, like writing the song down as he develops it, he now finds himself revisiting a single song over and over again, determined to finish it. He has a clear direction of the focus and commitment he needs to finally write a song, and eventually his ultimate dream of writing an entire album.

And just a week after our coaching session, Marlin reached out to me to share his first song he wrote and finished and even recorded to be released on Spotify. And let me tell you, it’s a banger of a song.

Congrats on your songwriting success, Marlin!
