Summer has finally arrived here in Anacortes, Washington, bringing about weekend trips to the San Juan Islands and still trying to perfect the pumptrack at the skatepark. Raspberries grow this time of the year in this part of Washington. You can pluck them right off and eat them on your hike. And wow are they yummy!
I was also fortunate to be able to have some time to visit my brother down in Santa Monica with a weekend filled with surfing, running club, hiking, and Disneyland!
Last time I was in Disneyland was when I was around 4 years old. It was cool being back and seeing it in real life instead of in my family videos. We sang with the tiki birds, rode the movie set rides, and sailed around the world. I haven’t really liked Disney much in the most recent years, but it was nice reconnecting with my childhood, growing up with all these movies and characters. That fairy tale magic of Disney stories is what pushed me to be a writer in the end.
We logged at Malibu, surfing 9-foot boards without a leash. That’s how locals can tell if you’re from there or not. It was wild seeing people ride these monstrous boards without anything attached to their ankle. On my first paddle out, a huge set rolled in, and two giant boards came flying toward me. But once I got the hang of the board not being attached to me, it got a bit better, and gives you the freedom to walk along the board. I caught some big kahunas!
As July rolls in, I’m making it my duty to finish The Palms of Light this month. I’ve always found the summer time is the least productive out of all the seasons. Does anyone else feel this way?
What are your summer plans?
Would love to hear your response 🙂
